“ The latino community wants to know, Is Chicano Spanish a real language or is it just  slang made up by chicanos?” A chicano/chicana is someone who is native of, or descends from mexico and lives in the United states. Chicano Spanish has been used by many Chicanos in the latino community to identify themselves with a language they felt comfortable speaking amongst each other. So why do people think it’s an illegitimate language? Gloria Azandula is a chicano writer and school teacher who uses ethos in her essay  “ how to tame a wild tongue” to use the best evidence she can find which was her own personal evidence to show that she had the credentials to make an argument about this topic as she herself is chicana.

Pocho, cultural traitor ,you’re speaking the oppressor’s language by speaking english ,you’re ruining the spanish language”  By quoting the statements gloria has  heard from other latinos about chicano spanish in her text, it shows the internalized belief in the latino community that chicano spanish is illegitimate and a “bastard language”.  The purpose of this was to show how chicanos were being discriminated against in the latino community for speaking a different spanish then they do.

“ Just because chicano spanish is different then ours doesn’t make chicanos any less latino then us”.

“ Chicano Spanish is a part of Chicano culture so why do some  latinos continue to degrade the language by saying its not a real language.
